A Starfield player discovers a glitch that results in an asteroid following them around as a traveling companion. Since its release, many
Starfield fans have discovered glitches that vary in severity, and this player may be stuck with a new friend. While it suffers from many bugs, Starfield is still more polished than earlier Bethesda releases. Some of the glitches players have encountered so far are a puddle with a shop inventory, one that can reward
infinite Starfield credits, and another that turns an NPC into a monster. Although some of these bugs are distracting, others can cause performance issues. Some players have reported crashes, notably on the Xbox Series S. One Starfield player has stumbled onto a bug that can result in problems if it builds up much more.
Reddit user ReverendRoo recently shared several screenshots highlighting their Starfield
glitch. In the images, ReverendRoo is flying around the Starfield universe in their spaceship. With each image showing it at a different angle, ReverendRoo is followed closely by an asteroid. The asteroid continues to follow ReverendRoo through Starfield
loading screens. This is illustrated by the different planets the two are spotted next to. According to ReverendRoo, they've failed to shake the asteroid after 30 hours of gameplay. Based on the feedback to ReverendRoo, they're far from the first Starfield
player to encounter this asteroid bug.
Other Starfield players have reported more than one asteroid tailing them, with the potential to gain up to six rock followers. As
Starfield already struggles to run on some gaming rigs, this bug can cause performance problems. According to some Starfield fans, the glitch affecting this player can cause Xbox Series X/S crashes, but the asteroids can be removed through PC console commands. While none of the images show the asteroid hitting ReverendRoo's custom Starfield ship, it could do some damage if the two collided. Based on the asteroid's size, it may only chip into the spaceship's shields, but it could be a hazard if ReverendRoo has low hull integrity.Because of the quality of images and the fact that
Starfield has a photo mode, it's likely that ReverendRoo used the feature to showcase the glitch. Though the Starfield asteroid seems to have physics like most in-game items, it's currently unclear whether this is a visual bug or something deeper. Given that fans have spotted the bug on Xbox Series X/S, a future Starfield update may resolve the issue.Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
